Frequently Asked Questions

I do not accept insurance. My rate is $160 for a 50-minute session.
I’m happy to provide superbills, which are detailed receipts you can submit to your insurance company for possible out-of-network reimbursement. I encourage you to check with your insurance provider regarding out-of-network mental health benefits to learn if full or partial reimbursement may be an option for you, as this varies widely by plan.
I don't accept insurance in part because it allows me to protect your privacy. Working outside of the insurance system means I'm not required to share your diagnosis or treatment records with a third party.

Prior to scheduling an initial session, I encourage meeting for a free, 20-minute exploratory consultation session to learn if we may be a good fit for one another.
During a free consultation, we will discuss your hopes for therapy, my approach, logistics, and any questions you may have about working together.
To schedule a consultation session, please contact me either via contact form or by email at Sydney@TheSelfCollective.com.

Yes! Whether or not you’re an ongoing client of mine, I’d love to help you with a letter of support for any gender-affirming care.
I offer letters of support free of charge and operate from an informed consent model.
The process for receiving a letter entails completing consent forms and meeting with me for 1-2 hours for an assessment session.
Following our assessment session, I will have your completed letter ready within two weeks.
Please note that my availability for this service is extremely limited at this time due to overwhelming demand. You are welcome to reach out to me via my contact form or by email at Sydney@TheSelfCollective.com to check current wait times.
If I’m unable to meet with you during your desired timeline, please check out the directory at Do Something Identities to find a provider for gender-affirming care letters after one session.

Yes—Confidentiality is foundational to the work we do together.
Maintaining confidentiality is both a legal and ethical obligation, and a core part of creating a container where you can be fully, authentically yourself without fear of exposure or judgment.
This is especially true for folks who have had their privacy, autonomy, or identity weaponized against them by systems that were never built with their safety in mind.
In line with an informed consent model, I believe you have the right to know exactly what confidentiality does and doesn't cover, so that you can make an empowered choice about what you share and when.
By law, there are a few narrow exceptions where I'm required to break confidentiality:
If I believe you are in danger of seriously harming yourself or someone else
If there is suspected abuse or neglect of a child, elder, or dependent adult
If I'm ordered to disclose information by a court of law
Outside of these exceptions, what you share in our sessions stays between us.

No—I'm not able to provide real-time crisis support between sessions or outside of our scheduled time together.
As a solo practitioner, I'm not equipped to respond immediately in emergencies, and I want you to have access to support that can meet you in the moment when you need it most.
If you are in crisis or experiencing thoughts of harming yourself or someone else, please reach out to one of the resources below — they're staffed by people trained specifically for these moments, any time of day:
Call or text 988 — the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline
Trans Lifeline: 877-565-8860 — peer support run by and for trans people
Go to your nearest emergency room, or call 911 if you or someone else is in immediate danger
